Accessibility statement
We want everyone to be able to browse, order and play here. This page says honestly what we have done, what still falls short, and how to tell us about a barrier.
Last updated 12 October 2026
The short version
- We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 (opens in a new tab) at level AA.
- We do not claim full conformance. The site has not been independently audited, and the games have known limitations.
- If something gets in your way, email ceo@balloonshoppe.org. We reply within 5 working days and will help you order another way in the meantime.
1. What we have done
- Keyboard
Menus, the basket, search, checkout and both games can be used with a keyboard alone. A “Skip to content” link is the first thing you reach, and the focused item always has a visible outline. In Pop Parade, balloons are real buttons: arrow keys move between them, Space or Enter pops, and P pauses. In Twist & Match, arrow keys, Home and End move between cards and Enter or Space flips.
- Colour contrast
Text and controls are designed to meet the WCAG AA contrast ratios. Information is not given by colour alone where we could avoid it.
- Alternative text
Photos and illustrations that carry meaning have text descriptions. Purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Reduced motion
If your device is set to reduce motion, the site turns off or calms its animations: the rotating announcement bar stops, confetti is skipped, card flips become fades, and Pop Parade slows down.
- Screen readers
Buttons and icons have text labels, forms have proper labels and error messages, pages use headings and landmarks in order, and the games announce what is happening (scores, time warnings, matches, and prize codes) through a live region.
- Zoom and small screens
Pages reflow to narrow screens and remain usable when text is enlarged.
- Sound
Game sounds are off until you turn them on. Nothing plays automatically.
2. Known limitations
These are the problems we know about. We would rather list them than pretend they are not there.
- Pop Parade is timed and fast
Each round lasts 45 seconds and the balloons speed up. The time cannot be extended or switched off (golden balloons add a few seconds). Keyboard and reduced-motion play is slower, but winning the prize still depends on speed, and the target colour is shown visually as well as announced.
- Twist & Match relies on memory and sight
It is a picture-memory game with a limited number of moves. Unmatched cards turn back over after about a second. Screen-reader users hear each card’s name, but the game is much harder without sight, and there is no setting for more time or more moves.
- Prize codes depend on the games
Because the game codes are won by playing, someone who cannot play the games cannot win them that way.
- Announcement bar
The bar at the top of each page changes message every few seconds. It pauses while a mouse pointer is over it and stops entirely if your device is set to reduce motion, but it does not yet pause when it receives keyboard focus.
- Payment pages
Card and PayPal payments happen on Stripe’s and PayPal’s own pages, whose accessibility we do not control. Cash on delivery, or ordering by email, is always available as an alternative inside Dhaka.
- Testing
Our checks so far are our own: reviewing the code, using the site with a keyboard, and viewing it at phone and desktop sizes. It has not been tested by an independent auditor or by disabled users.
3. Report a barrier
If any part of the site is hard or impossible for you to use, please email ceo@balloonshoppe.org with “Accessibility” in the subject. It helps to tell us:
- the page (or web address) and what you were trying to do;
- what happened;
- the device, browser and any assistive technology you use, if you are happy to share it.
We reply within 5 working days. If we cannot fix the problem quickly, we will tell you when we expect to, and help you place your order or booking by email in the meantime. You can also send us a message through the contact form or on Facebook.
4. About this statement
This statement was written on 12 October 2026, based on our own review of the site. We will review it whenever the site changes significantly, and at least once a year.
