What we do with your information.
The Balloon Shoppe is a one-person workshop. We ask for the few things we need to twist a balloon and get it to your door, and we would rather explain them plainly than bury them.
Last updated 14 October 2026
The short version
- There are no accounts. We only collect what you type into a form: an order, a party enquiry, a message, or a newsletter sign-up.
- No cookies, no analytics, no tracking pixels, no session recording. Your basket, saved items, recently viewed balloons, currency choice and game scores live in your own browser’s local storage, and you can wipe them with one button in section 4.
- We never see your card number. If you pay by card or PayPal, Stripe or PayPal handle the payment on their own systems.
- The fonts are served from our own site, so no request goes to Google or any other font service.
- We do not sell your information or share it for advertising.
- Orders, bookings, memberships, the newsletter and our forms are for adults aged 18 or over. The games collect nothing.
- To see, fix or delete what we hold, email ceo@balloonshoppe.org. We reply within 30 days.
Read this summary first, but it does not replace the full notice. If the two ever disagree, the numbered sections below are the ones that count. This notice describes how the shop works. It is not legal advice.
1. Who we are, and what this covers
The Balloon Shoppe is a small balloon-art business run by Elijah Green in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It has been trading since 2019. It is a sole trader, not a company. In this notice, “we”, “us” and “the shop” mean that business, and “you” means whoever is reading, browsing, ordering or booking.
This notice covers the shop’s website at balloonshoppe.org and everything that happens through it: browsing, the basket, the games, the newsletter sign-up, enquiries, orders, party bookings and Balloon Club memberships. It does not cover other websites we link to, or our Facebook page. Facebook’s own rules and privacy policy apply to anything you post or send there.
The shop decides what information is collected here and what happens to it, so the shop is responsible for it. If you want to talk to someone about any of this, that someone is Elijah. See section 16.
The law on personal information in Bangladesh is still developing, and we do not use that as an excuse for a lower standard. We apply the commitments in this notice to everyone, wherever they live. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, section 10 sets out the rights you are used to. We honour them as policy, and wherever they apply by law. We make no claim to any certification, seal or audit.
2. What we collect, form by form
There is no account to open and no profile. You do not have to tell us anything to look around the shop. We collect information only when you fill in one of the forms below, and each form asks only for what that job needs. Every form also asks you to confirm you are 18 or over.
Each form is delivered to us by Web3Forms, a form service that emails every submission to our inbox. Web3Forms may keep a copy for a limited period under its own privacy policy (see section 5). If that service is ever switched off or a delivery fails, forms go instead to our account with Netlify, the company that hosts the site, which stores the entries for us and filters spam. Elijah is the only person who reads them, and neither company uses them for its own purposes.
-
An order
form “order”What: your name, email address and phone number; the delivery method, date, address and area; what you ordered, with colours and quantities; the totals; your order reference; any promo code; any gift note; how you chose to pay and whether the payment went through (for PayPal, PayPal’s order number).
Why: to make the right balloons, deliver them to the right door on the right day, confirm the order by email, and sort out any problem. Your phone number is used for the delivery.
Lawful basis: performing our contract with you; keeping sales records is also a legal obligation.
Stored: our email, delivered by Web3Forms, including when we confirm. Card and PayPal payments are also recorded by Stripe or PayPal (see below). Kept: up to 24 months, or longer if a tax rule requires it. Seen by: Elijah; the delivery rider sees name, address, area and phone only.
-
Paying by card
When card payment is offered at checkout, you are sent to Stripe’s own checkout page, and Stripe collects your card details. We never see or store your card number. To create that payment, a small function on our Netlify hosting sends Stripe the items, prices, delivery line, your order reference, your email address, any promo code and any gift note. For a Balloon Club membership, Stripe also keeps the monthly subscription so it can renew it.
Lawful basis: performing our contract. Stored: Stripe, under its own retention rules. Seen by: Elijah, in the shop’s Stripe account; Stripe.
-
Paying with PayPal
When PayPal is offered at checkout, PayPal’s payment button is loaded only after you choose PayPal. You pay inside PayPal’s own window, and PayPal tells us that the payment succeeded and gives us an order number. What PayPal collects about you and your account is governed by PayPal’s own privacy statement.
Lawful basis: performing our contract. Stored: PayPal; the PayPal order number is added to our order record. Seen by: Elijah; PayPal.
-
Cash on delivery
Nothing extra is collected. You pay the person who brings the balloons.
-
A party enquiry or booking
form “party-enquiry”What: your email address; the date and start time you would like; the occasion; roughly how many guests and where, if you tell us; and any notes. Notes sometimes include a child’s first name or age, because you have asked us to make a fuss of them.
Why: to check whether Elijah is free, confirm the booking by email, and arrive at the right place. Lawful basis: steps you asked us to take before a contract, then performing the contract once a booking is confirmed.
Stored: our email, delivered by Web3Forms. Kept: up to 24 months after the party, or 12 months after the enquiry if it never becomes a booking. Seen by: Elijah.
-
The contact form
form “contact”What: your name, your email address, the topic you pick, and your message. Why: to read it and reply, and for nothing else.
Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in answering people who write to us, or steps before a contract if you are asking about an order. Stored: our email, delivered by Web3Forms. Kept: up to 12 months after the conversation ends. Seen by: Elijah.
-
The newsletter
form “newsletter”What: your email address and the date you signed up. Why: to send the occasional letter you asked for. See section 11.
Lawful basis: your consent, which you give by ticking the box, and can withdraw at any time. Stored: our email, delivered by Web3Forms. Your browser also keeps a note of the address you signed up with (see section 4). Kept: until you unsubscribe. Seen by: Elijah.
-
Emails you send us
Whatever you write, and your email address. Used to reply. Kept in our mailbox for up to 12 months after the conversation ends, unless it becomes part of an order or booking record.
-
The technical bits
Like every website, this one is served by a host, and your browser has to tell that host where to send the page. That request includes your IP address, the page you asked for, the time, and your browser’s description of itself. Netlify handles that request and keeps its own operational logs. We do not build visitor profiles from it, and we have no analytics dashboard.
Our forms include a hidden “honeypot” field that real people never fill in. If it is filled in, the entry is treated as spam and deleted.
We do not ask for anything sensitive: no health details, no identity documents, nothing religious or political. Please do not send us any. The one exception is a latex allergy. If you tell us about one so that we can keep someone safe, we use it for that booking and nothing else.
3. Why we are allowed to use it
Where the law asks for a reason (a “lawful basis”), these are ours. Section 2 shows which one applies to each form.
-
Performing a contract
Orders, deliveries, payments, Balloon Club memberships and confirmed party bookings. We cannot make or deliver what you bought without these details.
-
Steps before a contract
Party enquiries and questions about a possible order. You asked us whether something is possible, and we need your message and a way to answer it.
-
Your consent
The newsletter. The box is never ticked for you, and we add nobody who has not asked. You can withdraw consent at any time, and every letter tells you how.
-
Our legitimate interests
Keeping the site running, stopping spam and fraud, keeping a record of what we sold so we can honour it, and replying to messages and complaints. We keep this to the minimum that works.
-
A legal obligation
Keeping sales records for as long as tax or accounting rules require, and answering a lawful request from an authority with the power to make one.
4. Cookies & local storage
This site sets no cookies. It has no analytics, no advertising tags, no tracking pixels (Facebook or anyone else’s), no session replay or recording, and no third-party script that follows you between sites. If we ever add anything of that kind, we will update this notice first and add a consent banner before it runs.
What the site does use is your browser’s localStorage: a small storage area on your own device. It is not a cookie. It is not sent to us or to anyone else automatically, and we cannot read it from here. It keeps the things you asked the site to remember, such as your basket. These are the keys, which is every key the site uses:
| Key | What it holds, and why | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
bs.cart.v1 | Your basket: items, colours and quantities, so it is still there when you come back. | Emptied when an order is placed, or when you clear it. |
bs.promo | The promo code you applied to your basket. | Removed when an order is placed or the basket is cleared. |
bs.giftNote | The gift note you have typed. | Removed when an order is placed or the basket is cleared. |
bs.orderRef | The order reference made for your current basket, so a payment can be matched to it. | Removed when an order is placed or the basket is cleared. |
bs.checkout | The checkout details you typed (name, email, phone, address, area, delivery date, chosen delivery and payment method), so you do not have to type them again. | After an order, the address, date and payment choice are dropped. Name, email, phone and delivery method stay until you clear them. |
bs.lastOrder | A copy of your most recent order (items, totals, contact and delivery details), so the confirmation page can show it. | Replaced by your next order. Otherwise stays until you clear it. |
bs.wishlist | The balloons you saved for later (product references only). | Until you remove them or clear it. |
bs.recent | Up to 12 balloons you looked at recently (product references only). | Until you clear it. There is also a “clear” link wherever the list appears. |
bs.currency | Whether you chose to see prices in dollars or taka. | Until you change it or clear it. |
bs.rewards | Promo codes you have unlocked (from a game, the newsletter or the secret menu), with where and when. | Until you clear it. |
bs.newsletter | The email address you signed up with and the date, so the site knows you have signed up. | Until you clear it. Clearing it does not unsubscribe you (see section 11). |
bs.games | Your best game scores, whether you have won a prize code, and whether you turned the sound on. | Until you clear it. |
Why there is no consent banner
Consent banners are for storage that is not needed to give you what you asked for, such as analytics or advertising. Everything in the table is either strictly necessary for something you asked to do (keep a basket, check out) or a preference you set yourself (currency, sound, saved items). None of it is used to track you or shared with anyone, so the site does not ask for consent before using it. We will add a consent banner before any analytics or tracking is ever introduced.
PayPal’s own cookies
If you choose PayPal at checkout, PayPal’s payment button is loaded from paypal.com at that moment, and not before. PayPal may then set its own cookies and collect device information under its own privacy statement (opens in a new tab). Stripe’s checkout page does the same under Stripe’s privacy policy (opens in a new tab), but only once you have left our site for it. If you do not choose either, neither company’s code runs.
Clearing it
Press the button to remove everything this site has stored in this browser. It cannot be undone, and it does not affect anything already sent to us, such as an order. You can also clear “site data” for balloonshoppe.org in your browser’s settings.
5. Who else handles your information
A shop this size does not run its own servers or process its own card payments. These companies do parts of the job for us. Each gets only what its job needs.
-
Netlify
Hosts the website and the fonts, handles the ordinary web request your browser makes, including your IP address, and runs the small server function that creates a card payment with Stripe. If our form service is ever switched off or a delivery fails, Netlify receives our forms instead.
-
Web3Forms
Receives everything sent through our forms (orders, party enquiries, contact messages and newsletter sign-ups) and emails it to us. Your browser sends the form straight to Web3Forms when you press submit, so it also sees your IP address. It may keep a copy for a limited period under its own policy.
-
Stripe
Takes card payments and runs Balloon Club subscriptions, when card payment is offered at checkout. Stripe collects and holds your card details on its own checkout page. We send Stripe the items, amounts, delivery line, order reference, your email address, any promo code and any gift note.
-
PayPal
Takes PayPal payments, when PayPal is offered at checkout. Its code loads only if you choose it. PayPal collects your payment details on its own systems and tells us that the payment succeeded.
-
Delivery
Whoever delivers an order needs your name, address, area and phone number, and nothing else. Deliveries are inside Dhaka only. Elijah brings them himself wherever he can. When a local rider is used, the rider gets that same short list for that one trip.
-
Email
We reply by email, so the company that provides our mailbox stores that correspondence in the ordinary way.
-
Facebook
We have a Facebook page, and some people message us there. Anything you send on Facebook is handled by Facebook under its own policy. No Facebook code is embedded in this website. Our Facebook link is an ordinary link.
Fonts. The site’s two typefaces, Young Serif and Figtree, are served from our own site, so loading a page sends no request to Google Fonts or any other font service.
We do not sell, rent or trade your information, or hand it over for anyone’s advertising. We would pass it on only if a court or authority with the power to require it did so, or if we needed it to make or defend a legal claim. In either case we would give only what was necessary.
6. How we choose and review those companies
This is a commitment about how we work, not a claim of any certification or audit:
- Before we start using a company that will handle your information, we read its privacy and security terms and check that it limits what it does with that information to the service it provides.
- We review each company in section 5 against its current terms at least once a year, and again whenever it tells us its terms have changed.
- No new company is given your information until this notice has been updated to name it.
- If a company’s terms stop meeting that standard, we will stop using it and say so here.
7. Where your information travels
We are in Dhaka. Netlify, Stripe and PayPal are based in the United States and run their systems in several countries. So when you send a form or pay online, your details leave Bangladesh. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, they leave there too.
Each of those companies publishes the arrangements it uses for moving personal data across borders. For EU and UK data these include the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses and, where relevant, the EU–US and UK–US data-transfer frameworks. Their policies, linked in section 5, set out the current position.
If you would rather your details were not handled outside Bangladesh, email or message us to order, and pay cash on delivery inside Dhaka.
8. How long we keep it
These periods are the shop’s own policy. The law does not set them to the month.
- Orders and deliveries
Up to 24 months after the order, or longer if a tax or accounting rule requires it.
- Party bookings
Up to 24 months after the party.
- Balloon Club memberships
While the membership runs, then up to 24 months after it ends.
- Enquiries and messages
Up to 12 months after the conversation ends, unless it becomes an order or booking.
- Newsletter sign-ups
Until you unsubscribe. After that, we keep only a note that you asked not to be written to, so we do not add you back by accident.
- Spam caught by the honeypot
Deleted when we see it.
- Payment records
Held by Stripe and PayPal under their own retention rules. Our own copy is the order record above.
- Host logs
Kept by Netlify for its own operational periods, not by us.
- Your browser’s local storage
Under your control. See section 4.
When a period runs out, the record is deleted. If it cannot be deleted at once, for example from a backup or an email thread, we stop using it and remove it in the ordinary course.
9. How to delete your data
There are no accounts on this site, so there is no account to close. Your information is in one of two places.
- On your device. Use the “Clear data stored on this device” button in section 4, or clear site data for balloonshoppe.org in your browser’s settings. This takes effect immediately and we do not need to be involved.
- With us. Form entries in Netlify, order and booking records, membership records and emails: email ceo@balloonshoppe.org with the subject “Delete my data”, and include the email address or order reference you used so we can find it. We will confirm that we have it within 7 days and complete the deletion within 30 days. We will ask Stripe or PayPal to delete their copy where they allow it.
The only things we may keep are records we still need for an order you have not yet received, or that a tax or accounting rule requires us to keep. If so, we will tell you exactly what is staying and why.
10. Your rights, and how to use them
These are the rights people in the European Union and the United Kingdom have by law. We give the same rights to everybody.
- See it
Ask for a copy of what we hold about you and what we have done with it.
- Fix it
Tell us something is wrong or out of date and we will correct it.
- Delete it
Ask us to erase it. See section 9.
- Object, or ask us to pause
Object to our use of it where we rely on legitimate interests, or ask us to restrict its use while a disagreement is sorted out.
- Take it with you
Ask for the details you gave us in a common, machine-readable file.
- Change your mind
Withdraw consent for the newsletter at any time. That does not undo letters already sent, and it does not affect anything we hold for an order.
- Not be profiled
We make no automated decisions about you and do not profile you.
To use any of these rights, email ceo@balloonshoppe.org with “Privacy request” in the subject, or use the contact form. Tell us what you want and give us enough to find your records, such as the email address or order reference you used.
We reply within 30 days, free of charge. If a request is unusually large we may ask you to narrow it. If we cannot be reasonably sure who you are, we may ask one follow-up question, so that we do not send your details to the wrong person.
11. Letters from the shop
If you sign up with your email address and tick the box confirming you are 18 or over, we will write to you occasionally about seasonal makes, party dates and the odd discount. We do not add people to the list just because they ordered something.
Every letter has an unsubscribe link. You can also reply “stop” or email ceo@balloonshoppe.org, and we will take you off the list.
Order confirmations, delivery updates, booking confirmations and Balloon Club billing notices are not marketing. You will get them whether or not you take the letters, because they are about your own order.
12. Children, and this shop
We make balloon animals and have games in the back room, so children will read this site. We built it on that assumption.
For parents and guardians
- Buying, booking, the Balloon Club, the newsletter and every form on this site are for adults aged 18 or over. Each form and the checkout ask you to tick a box confirming you are 18 or over, and we rely on that. If you are under 18, ask a grown-up to place the order with you rather than for you.
- We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Nothing on this site asks a child for a name, age, email address or photograph.
- The games collect nothing. No account, no sign-in, no nickname and no leaderboard. A best score, a won prize code and the sound setting are kept in that browser only, as listed in section 4. None of it reaches us, and the clear button removes it.
- An adult sometimes sends us a child’s name. Party notes and gift notes often include a first name and an age. We use them for that balloon or that party only, and delete them with the order or booking record.
- If you think a child has sent us something, tell us and we will delete it. Email ceo@balloonshoppe.org with enough detail to find it. We will remove it and confirm. You do not need to give a reason.
A separate and more important point about balloons and small children is safety: uninflated and broken latex balloons are a choking and suffocation hazard for children under 8. Please read the safety section of our terms.
13. How we keep things safe
What we do:
- The site is served over HTTPS, so what passes between your browser and the site is encrypted in transit.
- Card details never reach us. Stripe and PayPal collect them on their own systems. The secret key that lets our checkout talk to Stripe is kept as a server-side setting, never in the pages you download.
- Prices, delivery fees and discounts are recalculated on the server when a card payment is created, so editing the page in a browser cannot change what is charged.
- Form entries and order records sit in our Netlify account, protected by a password and two-factor sign-in, and one person reads them.
- We ask for little, so there is little to lose.
What we will not pretend:
- No website is perfectly secure. We cannot guarantee that information sent over the internet is safe from everything.
- We rely on Netlify, Stripe and PayPal for the parts they run. Their security is their responsibility, and we review them as described in section 6.
- Email is not a secure channel. Please do not email us card numbers, passwords or identity documents. We will never ask for them.
- Anything kept in your browser is only as safe as the device it is on.
14. If something goes wrong
If information about you is lost, exposed or taken, we will look into it as soon as we know, stop what is causing it, and work out who is affected.
If there is a real risk to you, we will tell you directly by email: what happened, what was involved, what we have done, and what you might do yourself, such as watching your card statement. Where the law requires us to report a breach to an authority, we will do so within the deadline that applies. For people covered by EU or UK rules, that is 72 hours from becoming aware of it.
If the problem happened at Netlify, Stripe or PayPal, they have their own duty to notify, and we will pass on what we are told.
15. Changes to this notice
When the shop changes, this notice will change with it, and we will update the date at the top of the page.
If a change matters to you (a new company handling your details, a new use of your information, or anything that needs your consent), we will say so on this page and, for people on the newsletter list, in a letter. We will not quietly widen what we do with information we already hold.
16. Questions and complaints
If something here is unclear or looks wrong, please tell us.
If you think we have handled your information badly, tell us first and give us a chance to put it right. Email ceo@balloonshoppe.org with “Privacy complaint” in the subject, and we will reply within 30 days with what we found and what we are doing about it.
If you are not satisfied, you can take it further. In the European Union or the United Kingdom you can complain to your national data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office), and you do not have to come to us first. Nothing in this notice takes away a right you have under the law where you live.

The Balloon Shoppe is Elijah Green, a sole trader in Dhaka, Bangladesh, trading since 2019. This notice describes how the shop works and is not legal advice. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer and claims no certification.
